We believe all children should be given the opportunity to experience mathematics as the beautiful, logically-interconnected discipline that it is, not as a disjointed collection of rules, algorithms and procedures. That is why we created The Prime School of Mathematics, an afterschool and weekend enrichment program providing children with comprehensive, classroom-based math instruction. We give parents an affordable option for providing their children a world-class mathematics education.

An international curriculum
Our program incorporates the best teaching practices from Europe, Asia and the United States . It was designed to help each student fully understand the concepts behind the math they are studying, while simultaneously developing strong problem solving and logical reasoning skills.

We use the United States’ editions of math books from Singapore, the world’s leader in elementary math education. We supplement these with additional challenging problems that help our students develop an even deeper understanding of the math they are studying.

The right choice for your child
Because we assign students to classes based on their mathematical abilities rather than on their age or grade, our program accommodates students with a wide range of initial abilities and backgrounds. Those who love and excel in math are challenged in new and exciting ways. Those who struggle with math are given the extra attention and guidance they need.

Most classes are offered in regular and accelerated formats. Accelerated classes cover the curriculum 50 percent faster, allowing gifted students to complete three semesters of material each academic year rather than the usual two. Accelerated classes also allow struggling students to acquire the skills and understanding they missed in their regular school, while gradually working back up to grade level (and beyond).

Classroom-based instruction
A classroom setting is a critical component of our innovative approach to supplemental math education. We limit class sizes to no more than 8 students. This enables us to create an intellectually challenging, yet friendly and supportive, learning environment in which each student receives personalized attention. Our teachers treat each student with respect, and expect respect in return, not just towards themselves but also towards other students.

We create a special type of learning environment – one where students take pride in their own achievements, as well as in those of their peers. There is a real sense of camaraderie in our classrooms, allowing students to take intellectual risks freely, ask for help when they need it, and form many enduring friendships. The self-confidence, intellectual curiosity, motivation to excel, and advanced study skills students develop in our program transfer easily to other academic and social settings.

Weekly Homework
Another critical component of our successful program is the weekly homework assignment each student completes. The assignments have been carefully constructed to reinforce the material covered in class. It is desirable for parents to demonstrate the importance they place on learning math through their interest in their child’s work, and to assist small children who are not yet reading proficiently by reading the teacher’s instructions.

We believe that all students should enjoy math, not by having it made ridiculously easy, but rather by experiencing the pride and confidence that come from tackling challenging problems and solving them successfully.

We believe that the real test of students’ understanding of math lies in their ability to explain why rules and formulas work, not just memorize them. Rather than merely preparing to take standardized tests composed of familiar problems, students should be challenged to creatively apply their knowledge to solve new types of problems.
