Our Second Grade Intensive Preparation (3IP) class is a 6-lesson summer course designed to fully prepare students for our second grade curriculum. Whereas most summer math programs are remedial in nature, ours is not. Students entering our 2IP class should already possess a basic understanding of second grade math and be ready to move to a higher level of proficiency.

Each 2IP lesson reviews approximately 6 lessons of first grade (1A and 1B) material. The class not only gives students an opportunity to review and reinforce what they learned in first grade math, it encourages them to build upon that knowledge by applying it to solve more challenging word and non-routine problems, thereby improving and expanding their abilities.

Topics covered include:

• Lesson 1: Ordinal numbers. Addition and subtraction within 10. Addition and subtraction within 20.
• Lesson 2: Length. Mass. Picture graphs.
• Lesson 3: Addition and subtraction within 40. Mental calculation.
• Lesson 4: Multiplication and division.
• Lesson 5: Addition and subtraction within 100. Mental calculation.
• Lesson 6: Time. Money.
