3IP (Third Grade Intensive Preparation)
Our Third Grade Intensive Preparation (3IP) class is a 6-lesson summer course designed to fully prepare students for our third grade curriculum. Whereas most summer math programs are remedial in nature, ours is not. Students entering our 3IP class should already possess a basic understanding of second grade math and be ready to move to a higher level of proficiency.
Each 3IP lesson reviews approximately 6 lessons of second grade (2A and 2B) material. The class not only gives students an opportunity to review and reinforce what they learned in second grade math, it encourages them to build upon that knowledge by applying it to solve more challenging multi-step word and non-routine problems, thereby improving and expanding their abilities.
Topics covered include:
- Lesson 1: Numbers to 1,000. Addition and subtraction with 1,000. Using models involving addition and subtraction within 1,000.
- Lesson 2: Multiplication and division theory. Multiplication tables of 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10.
- Lesson 3: Using models involving multiplication and division. Mental calculations. Length. Mass.
- Lesson 4: Money. Fractions.
- Lesson 5: Time. Volume.
- Lesson 6: Graphs. Lines and surfaces. Shapes and patterns.
Our Intensive Preparation classes are an ideal way to improve your children’s math skills and fully prepare them for the coming academic year, while avoiding the nearly universal deterioration of math skills that results if children neglect math over the summer.
